    Ed Begley Jr. supports One Change and Project Porchlight on ABC’s What’s the Buzz. Actor and activist Ed Begley Jr. talks about the community based social marketing organization One Change and the energy efficiency campaign Project Porchlight on the ABC News program What’s the Buzz. He encourages people to get involved with the grassroots initiative and change their light bulbs to new energy efficient ones. Ed Begley Jr. explains we’re not about getting people to change light bulbs but instead using light bulbs to change people. One Change empowers people to believe that simple actions matter when it comes to protecting the environment. One of my friends …
      One of my friends bought a bunch of used stoplight bulbs and he loves them. Even though they are used they lasted twice as long as regular incandescents which makes him overjoyed because now he make his carbon footprint even bigger at less cost.

      Except …

      @onechange:
      Except that saving energy on each lightbulb does not at all correlate with reduced powerplant usage. People will simply leave lights on more, use more lighting etc. We’ve seen that before, with gasoline and SUV usage…
      A better solution to the powerplant problem is to scrub more mercury out of the stack gases.

      The Axiom of Pollution is that All the Coal That Can Be Burned Will Be Burned. No lightbulbs will change this. Why force people to use poisonous bulbs!!!?

      The overhead lights …
      The overhead lights in my office, don’t come into contact with my children, the way the lightbulb next to their bed does. Also, you got owned on that idiotic statement you made comparing breaking fragile bulbs to batteries!! You know it which is why you dodged it!
      PS, I am the boss, and If I want to spend the extra money and buy bulbs that use alittle more energy, I will. How are you the last to know man made global warming is all a hoax, anyway?

      I agree, we ought …
      I agree, we ought to work towards saving energy and the environment.

      But when Astrophysical causes for climate change are omitted by the ICPP and I have never seen an actual debate by either camps something is odd.

      @sweetseasons1 CFL …
      @sweetseasons1 CFL bulbs are safe to use. CFL bulbs contain about 2.5 mg of mercury. To put that in perspective watch batteries contain about 25mg. CFL bulbs actually present an opportunity to prevent mercury from entering our air. A CFL uses 75% less energy than an incandescent light bulb and lasts at least 6 times longer. A power plant will emit 10 mg of mercury to produce the electricity to run an incandescent bulb compared to only 2.4 mg of mercury to run a CFL bulb for the same time

      @chewbaca1989 We’re …
      @chewbaca1989 We’re encouraging people to take simple actions that help protect the environment and save them money. Whether you believe in global warming or not you can’t deny the obvious benefits of taking simple actions (like changing light bulbs) in your day-to-day life that reduce energy use and save money. Using less energy, burning less coal, cleaner air, saving money are all good things regardless of whether or not you believe in global warming.

      Good News: Ed, I confess. I buy your bulbs.
      Bad News:

      Global Warming is Genocide

      From the mouth of the founders of Environmentalism unto your ears.

      Happy times.

      Really? maybe you …
      Really? maybe you need to be more careful with the disposal of your light bulbs, unless your going round smashing bulbs for a hobby you will be fine.
      You should be more concerned of the large fluorescent lamps at your workplace, they ha, ve a shell as weak as incandescent bulbs, their structure a lot weaker then the smaller energy savers and have more mercury.
      Good luck convincing your boss to increase the lighting bill by 1000% by going back to incandescent…

    10. pimpdalyrical Says:

      People break light …
      People break light bulbs on accident all the time fool. Batteries have a hard metal shell on them. You’re absurd.

    11. pimpdalyrical Says:

      Ed you’re a moron. …
      Ed you’re a moron. There is no honest peer review of any science showing CO2 contributes to Global warming. Of course the best reason not to allow someone to tell me how to live, regardless of impact, is cause I don’t have to. Go to Begley!

    12. xdir Says:

      They EMIT mercury? …
      They EMIT mercury? heres a solution DONT BREAK THE BULB!!!, did you know that battery acid is toxic? DONT OPEN THE BATTERY!!!.

      Heres a risk you take EVERYSINGLE DAY that is more dangerous then the mercury in a bulb – BOTTLED water, the PET in the plastic bottles leeches into the water, especially when warmed (ie like when its being trandported in the back of delivery truck) when drunk you can get Antimony poisoning – so shame on EVERYONE & stop drinking water from plastic bottles…

    13. DaInfoMan11 Says:

      Haven’t you guys …
      Haven’t you guys seen the news clip of the anchors say that Mercury is good for the Brain? That’s great news because I found out mercury is also in High Fructose Corn Syrup!

    14. sweetseasons1 Says:

      Ed, those bulbs …
      Ed, those bulbs bust and they emit MERCURY!Shame on you and you are a crappy actor anyway.
