  • Does a candidates ability to run a campaign reflect on their skills as a leader?

Posted by admin on March 9th, 2010 and filed under organization strategies | 6 Comments »

Firing campaign managers, not getting out caucus votes, ignoring states, failed and flawed strategies.

I ask, if a candidate cannot piece together a coherent and polished campaign are they qualified to run the country?

Attention to detail, strategy, organization skills are all on display.

They left McCain for dead and kicked him to the street. Now Romney is going to endorse him, he has the backing of the whole republican congress, plus much much more. With the exception of far right talk show conservatives like rush limbaugh, sean hannity, ann coulter who need to put their partisan politics aside and look at the total picture, and they also are being left behind in the dust.
I would say McCain definately has it together as far as skills and experience as a leader.

sort of, hillary firing her manager is def a negative for her

I think its more about the campaign manager to set up the events, speeches, locations.

you cant stay in one state for too long (cough Guliani cough)

The campaign manager didn’t get fired. She will remain as a senior adviser. Solis Doyle said she was stepping aside as Maggie Williams takes over and cited the strain of the extended fight for the nomination.

“This has already been the longest presidential campaign in the history of our nation, and one that has required enormous sacrifices from all of us and our families,” Solis Doyle said.

Her strategy is a patient one, she is focussing on states like PA, OH and TX – which makes enough delegates to almost seal the election. Candidates have to be careful in the primaries, obviously they want to win, but on the other hand they dont want to spend money on every long shot state and end up with budget problems for the general election. Solis Doyle has never managed a campaign before – and I think replacing her was a good idea.

As a military leader we learned that the leader is responsible for everything your unit does or fails to do. As a leader you must be held accountable for the results of your leadership. If you can not manage your people, your budget, or other resources under your control you fail as a leader. It is managements responsibility to ensure programs are properly defined, properly implemented and satisfactorily carried out. A leader can not allow failure then blame it on someone else. Hillary was the person in front of the crowds, she is the one making promises she can not keep to the people, she is the one who approves her messages, her budget and her campaign. She bragged about her staff until she started loosing voted then blamed her campaign manager. When she admitted to voting for the war without reading the intelligence reports she said her staff briefed her but that they were not as accurate as they should have been. A leaders accepts responsibility; not push their mistakes off onto someone else.
