  • Does any one know the difference between a goal and strategy?

    Can any ony Identify both a goal and a strategy for an organization.

    A goal is your intended result, where as the strategy is the method in which you attempt to achieve that goal.

    For example, say my division’s sales goal was $11 million versus a previous year goal of $10 million (a 10% increase). Our strategies for that $1m in increased sales would be increasing sales through existing customers by X amount, finding new customer sales of X amount, losing some sales of X amount due to the economic conditions, and maybe X amount of sales from a new product or redesigned products. All those X’s would net to the $1m.

    Most of the time we would show this comparison in a waterfall chart and give examples of our marketing and sales programs that make up the strategy. A direct mail program to existing customers showing how much better we are than our competitors might be the underlying strategy combined with another one courting new customers showing how great our products and services are.

      The goal is the what you are hoping to achieve in the end, and the strategy is the means (how to achieve it) to that end.
