  • JDC West 2009 – Academics (5 of 7)

    Posted by admin on December 29th, 2009 and filed under organization strategy | No Comments »

    Academics
    A team of three students will represent their respective universities in one of ten academic case
    study competitions; accounting, business strategy, entrepreneurship, finance, human resource
    management, international business, marketing, not-for-profit organization strategy and taxation.
    The competitors go though three stages; isolation, resolution and presentation. The competitors
    check into isolation to ensure that they do not have any exposure to outside information about a
    case that they are competing in. The three-hour resolution stage is the stage through which a
    case study is read, analyzed, solved and made into a presentation. The competitors then move
    to a presentation room where they have 20 minutes to present their case solution to a panel of
    judges.
    Debate
    JDC West Debate is based on the parliamentary style of debate that is found in the Canadian
    house of commons. Each team of four will be randomly selected to represent either ʻside
    governmentʼ or ʻside oppositionʼ, respectively they will parlay to pass or defeat a proposed
    public bill.
